Charlie’s Community Support Takes Over Sue Ryder’s “Grief in Kind” Bereavement Groups – Relaunched as Grief Support

Charlie’s Community Support is pleased to announce that it has officially taken over the delivery of the Grief in Kind bereavement groups previously run by Sue Ryder. The groups will continue under a newname, Grief Support, ensuring that local people affected by loss can still access free, compassionate, and community‑based support.

The transition follows Sue Ryder’s decision to step back from delivering the groups, and Charlie’s Community Support has stepped in to ensure this vital service remains available to anyone navigating grief.

Continuity, compassion, and community

The newly named Grief Support groups will continue to offer a safe, welcoming space for people to talk, share, and connect with others who understand the experience of bereavement. Sessions will remain free of charge and open to adults at any stage of their grief journey.

Jo Sutherland CEO at Charlie’s Community Support, said:

“We know how important these groups are to people who are grieving, and we are honoured to continue the work that Sue Ryder began. Our priority is to provide a gentle, supportive environment where people can talk openly, feel understood, and know they are not alone.”

A smooth transition for existing attendees

All current attendees of the former Grief in Kind groups have been informed of the change, and sessions will continue at the same times and locations unless otherwise communicated, and of course new attendees are warmly welcomed.

Jo Sutherland added:

“Grief can feel overwhelming, and having a space to share that experience can make a real difference. We want everyone in our community to know that support is still here, and we are committed to keeping these groups accessible, inclusive, and rooted in kindness.”
